Here are a selection of photos taken at the recent launch of the Rubik’s 360 at Hamleys, London.

This lucky lady was selected from the crowds that gathered at the launch to be the first person in the UK to Buy a Rubik’s 360. Not only did she revel in her Rubik’s fame she also took the opportunity to buy 2 Rubik’s 360 puzzles too.

Once in Hamleys people were attracted to the Rubik’s 360 section by a very vociferous Hamleys Representative, not one that could be missed either.

We managed to take loads more photos at the Official Rubik’s 360 launch and will post some more here another time.

A week in the life of the Rubik’s 360

Well its is almost a week since the Rubik’s 360 officially launched at Hamleys in London. So what’s happened since then?

Well firstly it has to be said that the launch was a fun day had by many and the demand for the Rubik’s 360 was huge, as expected. So big in fact that Hamleys currently have the Rubik’s 360 as out of stock through their website.

So who does have stock of the Rubik’s 360 online?

At the moment it seems that no-one does.  Play.com have it as a pre-order still for £14.99 with expected delivery date of the 7th august 2009, theToyShop.com have it as out of stock and all the other retailers such as Argos, Amazon, ASDA, Tesco, Toys R Us to nme just a few are still awaiting their first delivery.

The Rubik’s 360 is going to be one of the top toys for Christmas 2009.

Getting back to the launch, the Rubik’s 360 entered the UK with a bang. The PR team promoting this new puzzle had put together an excited Rubik’s Media Team including, Dan Harris, twice UK Rubik’s Speedcubing Champion, Emily Dixon, Freelance Acrobat/Trapeze Artist and huge Rubik’s fan. A recent SKYPE for windows video was released based around the Rubik’s Cube and featured Jay Terrafranca who was also present as part of the media team. the youngest member of the media team on the day was 12 year old Maddy Kendall-Murray who was one of the madcap children in the St. Trinians films and has also been used in photo shoots for the Rubik’s brand. All were at hand to assist and demonstrate the Rubik’s 360 to those that dared to stand still for a split second, somewhat taken aback by the furor of what was developing before the……… Rubik’s 360 Mania was here, and here to stay.

The launched kicked of with the official cutting of the tape by Seven Towns Ltd representatives David Hedley Jones and Chrisi Trussell, the former  sporting as you will see in some of the photos a pretty fantastic Rubik’s top hat and for those that noticed a tie with loads of spheres, in keeping with the theme for the day. As well as the media team and other Rubik’s representatives there were plenty of Hamleys officials around to help those eager shoppers to get their hands on the Rubik’s 360 for the first time.

With the shelves emptying at a fast rate, members of the press joined the offcial Rubik’s 360 party for light refreshments and the opportunity for further photographs celebrating this long awaited day.

Having been lucky enough to be present at the launch, making the most of the opportunities to snap away, we can aonly draw on the conlcusion, shared by many that the Rubik’s 360 is already a massive hit and is a worthy successor to the original Rubik’s Cube. Will it be as succesful? is a question on the lips of many. With so many differences and likenesses, it is hard to say, but it will no doubt be a success in it’s own right.

Rubik’s 360 Launched Today

The long awaited launch of the Rubik’s 360 finally arrived today at midday in Hamleys Regent Street shop.  With online pre-orders already reducing stock levels, the official launch gave people the chance to try and buy the most anticipated toy, not just in the Rubik’s range to become available for many years. A full write up of the launch with loads of pictures will be posted soon.

So, at last the Rubik’s 360 is here, and here to stay!

Space 360 - Beware of cheap imitations

Following on from our beware of fakes post, you have to take some pride in the fact the lengths people will go to imitate a top class product. Imitation of the Rubik’s 360 is I suppose the greatest form of flattery. However, having said this, if someone is conned by this then it takes away this pride.

We have looked at some of the Ebay auctions and have come up with the Space 360?????

Anyone think that it looks familair?

This is not the Rubik’s 360 despite the similarity. All Rubik’s 360’s will come in the correct packaging with official Rubik’s branding.

Do not be conned, fooled or even tempted as you will only end up being dissappointed. These cheap imation rubik’s 360’s such as the space 360 are inferior and tacky in comparison.

There is only one Rubik’s 360.

Rubik’s Cube inventor’s new Rubik’s 360 puzzle goes on sale next week

News of the Rubik’s 360 and its official launch at Hamleys as written in The Telegraph.

The Rubik’s 360, a new game by Professor Erno Rubik, inventor of the Rubik’s Cube, is set to go on sale next week.

The 64-year-old reclusive Hungarian professor, who has seen his cube achieve 350 million sales since 1980, was heavily involved in creating the new brain-teaser.

The 360 is a clear plastic ball holding six small balls of different colours. Players must get the coloured balls from an inner sphere into matching slots on the outer sphere by shaking them through a middle sphere that has only two holes.

Using the original principles applied to the Rubik’s Cub, it will be available next week, costing £18.

David Hedley Jones, senior vice president of the Rubik brand, said: “It doesn’t need batteries and looks as though it should be quite easy.

“But it is incredibly complicated. There are some really cunning tricks to it.”

Hamleys, the London toy store, has already had thousands of inquiries for the 360. It’s head of sales Nigel Wheatley said: “It is our biggest item on the web. I expect thousands to be sold in days.”

Invented in 1974, the Rubik’s Cube was an instant success when it was first exported from Hungary in 1980, becoming the world’s fastest-selling toy.

Still obtaining a cult following, almost 40,000 entries on YouTube feature tutorials and video clips of quick solutions.

Rubik’s new brain teaser is on the ball

The new spherical puzzle from Erno Rubik is going to keep us on the ball according to the Daily Express this week.

THE inventor of the Rubik’s Cube has come up with a new brain-teaser that could prove even more ­frustrating to solve.

The tricky Rubik’s 360 dreamed up by Hungarian Professor Erno Rubik is a clear plastic ball holding six small balls of different colours. Players have to lock the balls into place to crack the puzzle.

“It doesn’t need batteries and looks as though it should be quite easy,” said David Hedley Jones, senior vice president of the Rubik brand. “But it is incredibly complicated. There are some really cunning tricks to it.”

He said Professor Rubik, 64, whose Cube craze has notched 350 million sales since 1980, was heavily involved in creating the 360.

It uses the original principles applied to the Cube and bright children as young as eight as well as adults will be able to tackle it. The 360 goes on sale next week costing £18. Toy store Hamleys has already had 3,500 inquiries. Head of sales Nigel Wheatley said: “It is our biggest item on the web. I expect thousands to be sold in days.”
